Learn about different types of mobile sensors

Hello friends,

Today in this post i am going to talk about different types of mobile sensors that are available in your Smartphones which helps you to do different task like light up phone display, compass, 360° video experience, fingerprint unlock, health tracking etc. Before starting with topic first we have to know about sensors.

👉What is sensors?

> A device which detects or measures a physical property and record indicates, or otherwise respond to it.

>Different type of mobile sensors:

1. Proximity sensor:

It is a sensor which detects the distance of the object & when the object comes near to proximity sensor then automatically screen light gets off. For eg . When you are picking calls  & bring your mobile near to your ear then the light of screen automatically gets off. This sensor is placed on the top bezels of mobile phones near the camera & earpiece.

⚪It used to setup wave unlock feature.
⚪Save battery by turn off display light at call time.

2. Ambient light sensor:

It is a sensor which detects the light which is available in surrounding according to that it changes the brightness of the mobile. For eg. If your are in day light conditions your screen automatically adjust its brightness so that the content inside the mobile phone get visible to user. This sensor is placed alongwith proximity sensor.
⚪It is used to adjust brightness level in mobile phones according to surrounding light conditions.

3. Accelerometer sensor:

It is a sensor which detects at what position you are holding your mobile phones. For eg. You are holding your mobile vertical position then all the content inside the screen are portrait mode when you are changing your mobile phone position from vertical to horizontal all the content inside the mobile are seen in landscape mode. This sensor provides only two axis rotation i.e X & Y-axis.
⚪Used in Auto-rotate feature in mobile phones.
⚪Use to play motion sensor games.

4. Gyroscope sensor:

It is a sensor which is advance version of accelerometer sensor , it detects each & every degree change in position. It is also detects three axis rotation on x,y & z-axis.
⚪It use to play motion sensor games.
⚪It is use to play 360° videos.

5. Fingerprint sensor:

It is a sensor which detects your fingerprint & unlock the device or perform any task. This sensor is place either front or rear side of device, in some mobile phones it is placed on side of device inside the power button.

Modern mobile phones like vivo X20 plus UD has in display fingerprint scanner in this case fingerprint scanner is placed inside the display.

⚪It is used for security purpose in mobile phones.
⚪It is used in performing different task using fingerprint gestures.

6. Magnetometer:

⚪It is use to measure sea-level.
⚪It is use in health applications.
⚪It is also use in maps.

8. Temperature sensor:

It is sensors which is used to measure temperature of your surrounding. Temperature sensors are available in each & every device but it measures only internal temperature. Flagship smartphones has external as well as internal temperature sensors.
⚪It is use to measure surrounding temperature.

9. Pedometer:

It is a sensor which is used to detect your step count.
⚪It is used in heath application in mobile phones.
This are the basic sensors which are used in mobile phones. There are other sensors like heart rate sensor, iris scanners are the combination of this basic sensors.
